These recent international productions, including Canadian works, investigate the power of speech and language. Repeated words create a space for retreat and solitude, a climate of derision or absurdity, revealing obsessions and excessive states, leaving a place for humour, obviously. Some of these Speaking Bodies are related to performance; others develop an ambiguous relation to storytelling and autobiography.
